Treating leather requires large amounts of water. At Vélez, we ensure that we make the most of this resource and return it to water sources in better condition than we received it. We save 50% of the total water used during skin treatment, using only about 0.4 cubic meters, compared to other industries that use up to 1 cubic meter.
We also have two treatment plants for water sources: one for wastewater treatment and another for potable water. Our sustainable mission is focused on maximizing the use of every resource.

As a company, we implement practices in all our processes that make us increasingly responsible towards the environment. One of our contributions is avoiding hazardous substances that generate harmful gases in tanning processes, while also reducing energy consumption, water usage, and harmful emissions.
At Vélez, we confront traditional tanning practices with innovative strategies that aim to balance environmental and social impacts. Traditionally, leather processing has been considered one of the most polluting, with tanning historically done along riverbanks, causing significant damage to water sources due to the chemicals used and lack of wastewater treatment. We have chosen to innovate in every process to be more environmentally friendly, prioritizing the management of wastewater.
